are valuable to us and the Caribbean and we can't afford to be apathetic bystanders.

NCOCA CALL TO ACTION!
West Indian citizens of America. Join the National Coalition on Caribbean Affairs (NCOCA)
in writing both your US senators to support legislation vital to the Caribbean. Send them
your signed copy of the NCOCA drafted letter below. The Caribbean and NCOCA are depending
on you!
Dear Senator --------,
I am writing as a constituent and member of the Caribbean community to express my strong
support for legislation to provide parity of access to the U.S. market for Caribbean
exports to that provided to Mexico under the North American Free Trade Agreement(NAFTA).
Such legislation is needed because the Caribbean nations, which have been excellent
trading partners with the United States under the Caribbean Basin Initiative, purchasing
on the average 65%-70% of their imported goods and services from the Unite States, are now
disabled because exports from Mexico enjoy superior access to the U.S. market. As a
result, investors who were manufacturing in the Caribbean to export to the U.S. market are
moving these investments to Mexico, and the departure of the assembly operations has
caused loss of jobs and economic decline in the Caribbean. I am informed that Caribbean
parity will be included in a package of trade legislation that will be presented by the
Senate leadership later in the session. Thus, the Senate will have the opportunity to act
to significantly enhance the trade and commercial relationships between the United States
and the Caribbean, and I ask that you support this Caribbean parity legislation when it
comes to the Senate floor.
Sincerely,
Home
